During Jack's childhood, his father's family gathered on his grandparents' front porch most Sunday afternoons and swapped stories. Jack's storytelling improved when he worked as a barber to pay for university and seminary.

Jack learned to do Bible storytelling when he and his wife Doris lived in Brazil for 33 years while employed with the International Mission Board (IMB). They were pioneers in using chronological Bible storytelling in South America. Jack became IMB's first Bible Storytelling Coordinator for Eastern South America. The Bible storytelling books and curriculums they developed in Portuguese continue to be used throughout Brazil.

Jack and Doris returned to the USA to expand their storytelling activities. They do storytelling, lead training seminars and do consulting across North America and internationally.
